Strongholds are the resource field that provides you with copper coins. There are always many more troops in a stronghold then in a corresponding level wild. For example a Level 4 Stronghold has the same number of troops as a Level 8 Wild. So in general much more difficult to take. Strongholds are a key necessity for competing as a free player against a player who buys gold. Having as much copper coin as possible is the only way to become powerful against a gold buyer.

I grow sh. As an essentially free player, I need them. If you are serious about growing sh you have to be able to deal with visitors, and you need at least one alt. Maintaining sh can be a time consuming task. The more you have, the more a pita it is. You need alts to snag them so all u have to do is grab them back, ideally dispatching while alt is still marching on it. If you are not strong enough to defend your sh and to drop occupation on growing ones you will fail. Even in the best alliance, if you ask for help too often its not good. Stand on your own two feet. If you've a plethora of sh, recruit another player, ideally in opposite time zone, to assist. Things I have found that work to defend: - drop the sh someone took then msg them to let them know you are growing sh. This works for me more often than you'd think (doesn't hurt to be a good level in a powerful alliance) - I let peeps know they are fine to stay, as long as they don't touch my sh. I don't attack them. This gives illusion of much more sh competition to anyone browsing about, and builds trust w other players. - check out thread on alts... Attack the interloper to get them to leave. I always message to apologize for having to pummel them ...again, communication goes a long way. If you give them a persona is much easier for them to decide to leave... Unless u are an arse like sprack, then this will backfire - only if you really really can't handle it, ask for help

I've tried so many times to grow them and my mind gets bored to quik. Sometimes I like to have a big one near me as a bear trap. SNAP they take the bait and fish on the line.

I grow sh. As an essentially free player, I need them. Is there a good resource for how to do this? I thought I knew what I was doing, but apparently my strategy is wrong. Started with a level 7 SH and wanted to keep it at that at least for now, and I've been switching it at least once every day, but it has still dropped to a L5 in the past few days. This happened to others in my alliance as well, so I'm not sure what's up. I know we are all, for-sure, dropping/reclaiming them daily.

You have to do it within 25 hours of taking it. And sometimes it just doesn't work... But mostly it does. I was trying to shift my maintenance time by 2 hrs so had alts takes at previous time, then grabbed them 2 hrs later w main. All good until next day at my 2 hr shifted maintenance time... Had 3 of my sh drop level - astounding. Something was glitches there. Normally, if I reclaim within 25 he's I only lose a level on one sh maybe once a month. Maybe.

So... some of my alliance members are convinced that in order for a SH to grow at all, it first needs to go down to zero. Meaning, in order to grow anything at all, I need to drain it to 0, drop it, then wait for it to grow back up to 9 before taking it over at all again. Or if someone takes my occupied SH from me... when I take it back, I guess I am supposed to drain it to 0, and then let it grow again...?
This doesn't quite make sense to me. Can someone explain the FAQs of growing strongholds to me? I'm confused and haven't been able to grow anything at all. I usually have no SH, despite having 6 slots for them. So I need to figure this out asap! Thanks! I'm on a V4 server, if it matters.

I've never heard that. I have had a 6 taken that progressively goes to an 8, so I can say that if one you are growing is taken, you don't need to drain to 0 to reboot. I've heard other stuff too... None of which pans out. The only thing I have heard which seems true is that each sh has its own personality. Some grow, some don't. I may try the reset to 0 on a couple that never go anywhere just to see what happens

firstly, if you want good strongholds position yourself close to a good cluster of them. You will need to defend them once they grow and this is much easier if you don't have to travel too far. They go up and down randomly, mostly they stick to the direction they a going until someone jumps on them. then that seems to reset them. I will jump on one for a few hours if its heading down in levels and then abandon, often the next time i check it, it has started going back up again,, but not always. can be frustrating and patience it required. It's bloody annoying when you have one leveling up nicely then someone else jumps on it. Yep, be prepared to fight and have plenty of drama once you have grown some good strongholds. good luck
