Finding the Barracks
The Barrack window can be opened by clicking on the compound looking icon in the center of the main city window. In the image above you can see a red square around the Barracks icon.
Once inside the Barracks you will see three tabs: Train, Enhance Attribute, and Crit Rate. For now let's focus on the Barracks itself. The Barracks allows you to train troops as well as enhance them greatly. The level of your Barracks determines the maximum troops you can maintain. For example in the screen shot above you can see that my Barracks level is at 47 and my maximum troop count is 33,603. Directly beneath this you will notice the amount of resources required to perform the upgrade to level 48 as well as the required time. Back to troops, building your soldiers strongly tied to population since each troop takes one population to maintain. We will get further into population later on for now lets stick to the basics.
Training troops is fairly straightforward. As long as you have sufficient Idle Population you will be able to train troops for use. You have four troop types: Infantry, Cavalry, Archer, and Catapult. Each troop takes a specific amount of your resources and time to produce, more detail can be found below.
There are as of right now three types of servers. V1, V2, and V4 servers. V1 and V2 servers are largely similar though they do have some differences. V4 Servers provide a higher troop count as well as some other somewhat insignificant differences. For the most part they are the same game with minute differences. Since I am not playing on a V4 server the details within this guide will pertain to the older servers.
Training Troops
When training troops there are a few things to note, first I will tell you to beware of the green icon to the right in the image above. This button will automatically finish your troops training of that type the catch is that it requires those pesky little Gold Coins. THERE IS NO CONFIRMATION REQUEST AT ALL. Basically if you press it and you have the Gold Coins say bye-bye to the Gold and hello to your very expensive troops. If you have the Gold Coins by all means press it like there is no tomorrow but if you are not filthy rich you might want to steer clear of this button.
Second you will notice the gray bar, this gray bar is your progress bar for that troop type that is training. The bar will turn blue as correlating to the percentage of training completeness. Just above this gray bar you will see the amount of troops you are training, in this case it is 1,224 Infantry.
Third, to the right of the progress bar and just below the button that automatically completes training you will see a clock with a time beside it. That is the time required to build the amount of troops you have decided to build.
Finally you will see an icon to the far left which is the troop type. Below that you will see a number. This number is the amount of troops you have of that type which are not currently assigned to any heroes. Mine is zero because my troops are all assigned to heroes.
Troop Types: Infantry
Infantry will likely be your best friend when it comes to building troops. They are relatively cheap in terms of resources required to train and they are also great all around for fighting with great attack, health, and defense. Below you will see some statistics on Infantry. Resources will be your largest issue with troops and particularly food.
Troop Types: Calvary
Cavalry are one of the most underused troop types on my server. The main reason being that they are very expensive to build and provide little benefit if any from that of the Infantry.
Do not let this deter you from training Cavalry though. This is because on V4 each troop type has a different marching speed. Out of the troop types available it only makes sense that the troops on the horses would have the quickest march time right? They tried implementing this on the older servers but it only caused an uproar and after two or three days the reverted back to a "One size fits all" approach to marching times on our servers. Unless you play on an older server the speed and crop cost will play a large part in what type of troops you choose to build.
Troop Types: Archer
Archers are overlooked most of the time. They are the cheapest to build, have a high attack rating but they have a terrible defense rating.
Strong Army for Few Resources (Has Been Phased Out)
Now here is where it gets tricky regarding Archers. Not many know this even though it is in plain sight. Archers are an untapped resource in most cases because when you get into troop enhancements, which more detail can be found below, Archers receive the highest increase in attack. If you get your Archers to level 10 enhancement, equip a few gems and items and use a good formation where your Archers are behind Infantry you can have a hard hitting army for a bargain! The downside is that if you get hit by any troop type you will suffer great losses of troops, but then again they are very cheap to train. You've been informed now it's up to you, but I seriously suggest giving them a shot before you cast them to the side for Infantry and Catapult.
Troop Types: Catapult
Finally we get to the most overused troop type on the game, unlike Infantry they aren't as cheap to build and frankly they are as expensive as Cavalry. They pack one mean ass punch right from the get go and will likely be your first enhancement to level 10.
